City Hood of Vigan

Vigan is a UNESCO World Heritage City that blends the modern and ancient worlds. The city has evolved from a simple town to a comprehensive city, while still retaining its cultural and historical values.

As a municipality- Vigan was one of the wealthiest municipalities in tobacco and agricultural trade, with an economic focus on Abel fabric. It had Spanish colonial ancestry homes, cobblestone streets, and a Spanish layout, which added to the town's history. Traditions were deeply ingrained, and life was simple.

As a cityVigan became a city in 2001, and its tourism has continued to develop since then. The heritage area of Calle Crisologo and up-to-date structures have revitalized the city's economic strength. Culture is preserved through various forms of event participation and festivities.

Vigan is an example of a successful union between old heritage and modern development. It has become a prominent example of the progress and transformation from small townships into highly populated cities in the Philippines.
